All your movies on a single DVD

PARIS: Scientists unveiled a new Digital Video Disk (DVD) technology on Wednesday that stores data in five dimensions, making it possible to pack more than 2,000 movies onto a single disc. A team of researchers at the Swinburne University of Technology in Australia used nano-technology to boost the storage potential of standard DVDs nearly 10,000-fold, according to a study published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature. Min Gu, who led the team, said they were able to show how nano-structured material could be incorporated onto a normal-sized disc to increase its data capacity. The researchers said commercial production of the DVD is at least five years off. afp
